Work & experience

Field work, site checks, and hands-on roles.

The work I enjoy most is physical: inspecting power networks on site, assessing power lines, counting stock with the chief engineer, and teaching kids to build and take apart hardware. Here’s every role I’ve had and the skills I picked up along the way.

What I’m looking for

Physical, hands-on technical work: out in the field, in a workshop, or at a bench, building, fitting, inspecting, and repairing real things. I learn new systems quickly and I’m ready to hit the ground running.

Northpower Nov 2024 – Feb 2025 Full-time internship

Engineering Intern

Out in the field and back in the office, I updated and verified electricity network data, helping Northpower track 1,000+ assets more accurately and respond to outages faster.

  • Carried out power line assessments on site, checking assets against the network records.
  • Updated and verified network data in ArcGIS, the GIS software used to map the network.
  • Worked with engineers to estimate asset lifespans and replacement costs for maintenance planning.
  • Helped the chief engineer run the annual stock take.

What it taught me To work carefully and keep records exact. Engineers plan maintenance and outage responses around that data, so what I checked in the field had to match what went into the system.

Northpower Nov 2023 – Feb 2024 Full-time internship

Network Intern

Confirmed 6,000+ power grid disconnections were safe using on-site and digital inspections, and kept Northpower’s internal database up to date as each one was confirmed.

  • Visited sites to inspect disconnections in person, alongside checking them digitally.
  • Contacted hundreds of customers by phone, email, and in person, and answered their questions.
  • Escalated issues to the right people when something needed more attention.

What it taught me That safety work runs on following the process properly, and on explaining it clearly. Plenty of the people I spoke to just wanted to know what was happening to their power and why.

QRL Mar 2021 – Feb 2024 Part-time volunteer

Volunteer Teaching Assistant

Helped deliver hands-on STEM workshops for primary and intermediate school students for three years.

  • Guided students through building RC cars.
  • Ran computer teardowns, taking machines apart so their parts could go to e-waste.
  • Supported practical science activities.

What it taught me How to explain technical things simply, and how to keep a hands-on session running smoothly when everyone has tools in their hands at once.

Ricoh NZ Sep 2025 – Jun 2026 Full-time

Technical Resolution Agent

Diagnosed and fixed hardware and software faults remotely for 50+ unique customers a day, in a fast-paced environment where every call could be a different device.

  • Worked across a wide range of devices and systems, from printers to audiovisual setups.
  • Resolved hardware and software issues remotely while keeping customers satisfied.
  • Kept accurate case documentation for every job.
  • Logged and tracked cases in CRM systems.

What it taught me Adapting quickly. The next call could be a system I hadn’t seen before, so I got fast at picking up new equipment and working out where a fault was coming from.

Provida Aug 2023 – Oct 2023 Remote contract

Data Entry Assistant

A remote contract keeping a company’s customer database complete and correct.

  • Added new customer information and contact details to a custom database.
  • Confirmed existing records and corrected inaccuracies.
  • Worked independently and remotely to the contract’s timeframe.

What it taught me Attention to detail. Small errors in a database spread, so I got into the habit of checking records properly rather than assuming they were right.

I get to the root of a fault

From printer and AV faults at Ricoh to a dying SSD in my own PC, I work through it until I find the cause.

04

I communicate clearly

Hundreds of customer conversations, three years teaching kids, and team competitions against the clock.

Outside the job

The same skills, on my own projects.
